Swim with the baby turtles

Go on a date…..

Culture Aangan invites you on a date with the Ridley Baby Turtles!
A special 3 day package in the most pristine locations, being with the Ridley turtles, staying in exotic rural home stays and connecting with nature!

Come mid March and the villagers of remote Tambarde beach will be agog with excitement. This is the day that they have been looking forward to for the entire year.

Tambarde is a remote, 2 km long stretch of pristine, virgin beaches on the western coast of Maharashtra. The sands are unbelievably white. The waters are crystal clear. But it’s not just the beach and the waters that the villagers are proud of. They have something more! The villagers, mostly fisher folk, welcome the giant Mother Olive Ridley Turtle every January. She comes seeking the peace and quiet of Tambarde to lay her eggs. 60 days later the eggs hatch and the baby turtles come scuttling out. The villagers are being trained by professional naturalists to conserve the eggs and then gently direct the baby turtles back into the waters. For 60 days every villager guards the 200 odd eggs with hawk eyes from predators. It is a source of pride that the Mother turtle has chosen their part of land to lay her eggs and she feels safe here.

This year the mother turtle has already gone back after laying her eggs. There are 110 eggs.

Culture Aangan, a culture tourism company dedicated to developing responsible rural tourism, is initiating a drive to increase awareness towards the Olive Ridley Turtles. World over these turtles are on the verge of extinction. The villagers of Tambarde village want the Mother turtle to continue coming back every year to lay her eggs. They want to create a safe clean environment for the turtles.

So… it’s a date!

Culture Aangan has created beautiful experiences which enable families and friends to connect and rejuvenate. It’s all about having a holiday with a difference.
